ADRF FUNDED RESEARCH

ADRF offers grants to promising scientists who are leading the charge against addiction as well as research institutions that offer novel approaches to meeting the nation’s addiction crisis.  Our team works closely to ensure that every dollar is used efficiently and then we report back to our donors.  Learn more about the research we are funding and apply for grants.

ADRF provides funding to scientists and institutions who focus on a variety of consumption addictions, such as drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.  A current focus of ADRF efforts is on meeting the crisis of opioid addiction and the spiraling death toll from this problem.

FOCUS AREAS

Drugs At present the annual death toll from opioids has surpassed 64,000. ADRF seeks to support research leading to new treatments, including behavioral therapies as well as new medications. Development of such medications requires and ongoing program of research in basic neuroscience, brain imaging, as well as related studies in neurobiology that can provide a scientific basis for new drug development. New compounds will need to be tested in animal studies, human studies and clinical trials. ADRF hopes to provide catalytic funding for efforts in each of these critical stages.

Alcohol ADRF seeks to explore genetic and biological components of alcohol addiction that can assist in the development of new behavioral therapies supported with new medications. ADRF work with and support research and treatment programs currently ongoing at various centers.

Tobacco With over 540,000 annual deaths in the nation related to tobacco, ADRF seeks to support basic and applied research leading to new treatments for tobacco and nicotine addiction. As in other areas of addiction, ADRF work with and support research and treatment programs currently ongoing at various centers. Since its inception in 2006 ADRF has had a particular focus on adolescent smoking cessation.
